Healing Crystal Handbook: Tourmaline

Egyptians believed that Tourmaline came to Earth from the core of the earth, after passing over the entire sky on a rainbow-lit day and turned into the celestial gemstone that it is now. To the aborigines and shamans of the west, tourmaline protected the wearer from all evil while Indians believed that Tourmaline brought direction and destiny closer to present tense.

And apologies if I seem to be flaming this post, but I’ve made another new Tourmaline discovery.

This time it’s about Dravite (Brown Tourmaline). Seventeen days ago I purchased a delightful 18mm-long, double terminated Dravite crystal on Amazon; it arrived the following day (not much mail in the postal system right now so, even though my new baby had to travel almost the whole length of England to reach me, it only took overnight).

Having greeted and cleansed it, I sat down with it to bond. This is something that comes easily to me, especially with Tourmaline, so despite not having worked with Dravite before, I wasn’t worried about not being able to connect with it. I was worried, though – as I’m sure we all are – about the pandemic and the harm it’s doing globally, and also because it’s my belief that the British government is relaxing the Covid-19 safety measures much too soon.

Apart from its initial excitement – the first thing it communicated to me was (and I kid you not) “Oh my god, I’ve fallen into the hands of a crystal whisperer!” – it gave me a message: “Don’t worry, Mother Earth and I have got your back. Any time you feel scared, hold me, and I’ll remind you of that promise.”

And it has. When, the other day, it was announced – amid much talk of things ‘getting better’, and much use of the past tense in relation to a pandemic that’s still well and truly ongoing – that from July 24th, people in England have to wear face masks in shops or be fined by the police, I started to wonder: what was the real truth, and why was Westminster making us wear masks at all – unless you have a severe respiratory condition, like Emphysema or Asbestosis – if it was ‘getting better’? The whole thing didn’t add up. I went straight for the Dravite. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s been frightened by the scale of this illness.

Love and Light.

I have to say, though, that Achroite isn’t the rarest form of Tourmaline.

That accolade goes to Rainbow Tourmaline.

And I’ve been mind-bogglingly lucky to manage to obtain one (without mortgaging my soul).

Its energy is incredible! There’s a pure, indescribable joy about Rainbow Tourmaline. And since my new friend really does display all 7 colours (can you imagine the odds against one crystal coming under so many different influences?) it’s a wonderful, crazy, incredible, all-chakra re-energising, realigning rollercoaster ride of happiness! I could honestly wish for Rainbow Tourmaline to be more commonplace, because everyone should get to feel that at least once. It’s entirely unique.

Love and Light.

@Alisa mathew, you’re right there, but there’s more to it.

The striations on the surface of a natural Tourmaline are a marker of its power: it’s an electrical conductor, especially when heated or rubbed, and that property means it has significant healing power over the nervous system. Tourmaline – especially the blue type – has a truly amazing effect on neuropathic or neuropathically-mediated pain, particularly when used together with Aquamarine. In fact, we’re now on the subject of two of my very favourite crystals: Indicolite and Aquamarine. I’ve been as good as in love with those two crystals for most of my life! Any shade or colour of Tourmaline is effective against nerve pain or CNS disorders; you can take your pick, perhaps by whichever colour you’re most drawn to, or by the colour of crystal that works on the chakra that rules the location of the problem — for low back pain, there’s little to nothing to beat Schorl, and for cervical (neck) spinal pain, Indicolite is amazing, especially teamed with Alexandrite.

Tourmaline, no matter the colour, is a very positive gem: in fact I’d go so far as to call it a happy gem! It seems to create a shield, a kind of bubble of positive energy, around me (it manifests in my spiritual vision as a spherical shield of pure white light) through which nothing negative can penetrate. Nowhere is this more readily apparent than with my tetrahedral Schorl amulet which, when consciously asked for help, makes me invulnerable to negative energy of any sort. Useful to say the least when you’re sitting in your GP’s waiting room and it feels like someone just died in there.

Pink Tourmaline is a special case. It creates the same shield, but in this case it’s centred specifically on the heart chakra. That’s powerful stuff if you’re looking to ask a potential lover on a date, but you fear rejection: with Pink Tourmaline, even if the answer is “no”, the rejection doesn’t hurt! Combine Pink Tourmaline with Rose Quartz, both in pendant form and worn over the higher heart (mid-breastbone) or heart chakra, and no matter how cruel and hurtful someone is towards you, it won’t upset your own energies.

Incredible stuff!

Love and Light.

You have mentioned many properties about it and it is really beneficial, I would also like to share my knowledge about it,
Tourmaline is a collection of rainbow colors, it consists of all the colors which rainbow have and this is the reason that tourmaline referred to as “gemstone of the rainbow” with an exceptional mixture of colors. It is a semi-precious mineral stone that is also famous for its unbelievable abilities to help in the process of detoxification of the human torso. It is in the list of those stones that really comprises the energy to emit far-infrared rays and negative forces. The name of this marvelous stone is derived from “Tura Mali”, which is a Singhalese phrase and the English translation of this phase is “stone mixed with vibrant colors”.
Your blog is also really interesting!!!
From here also, can get to know many more facts about it.
Thank you

Oh, I do love Tourmaline!

The only problem I’ve ever had with it is, all but two of my Tourmaline pendants have come apart. Only yesterday, my raw Blue/Violet Tourmaline pendant broke itself to get free of its cap; luckily the crystal itself seems relatively unharmed. The only Tourmaline pendants that have stayed as pendants, are my Pink Tourmaline cabochon, which I’ve had since 1993 and which I was wearing when I first met my husband; and my tetrahedral Black Tourmaline amulet, which I’ve only had since May.

Probably my favourite Tourmaline of times past (though one should never play favourites with crystals) was my Sterling silver-set Watermelon Tourmaline. A pretty, richly coloured little tumbled piece which came out quite flat and is about 1cm × 1cm (I still have the crystal, just not mounted as jewellery), wearing it made me feel so very happy, even in the darkest times of my teen years, I really cherished it!

But it wouldn’t stay on the bell cap. It just kept breaking the grip of the glue, whether jeweller’s epoxy or superglue, and coming loose. It got so I was scared to wear it out of doors, in case it got lost!

Six times hubby and I tried re-setting that crystal, and each time it got free again. After the sixth time I sat quietly with it and asked why it kept breaking loose: it responded with deep love and also a lot of sadness, that it loves me very much and doesn’t want to leave (I never imprison a crystal that wishes to leave, no matter how it hurts), but it didn’t want to be glued to a piece of metal.

I wonder if it was the glue that was the problem and, if so, whether wire wrapping might be a good way to get it back in a pendant without the glue? That wouldn’t be easy with such a small piece, though. I’ll have to ask it whether that would be acceptable.

Then again, things have changed so much since we last tried to repair the pendant; perhaps the change in my circumstances has caused a change in the Tourmaline’s mind. I hope so, because my RA is getting worse, I’ve just found out the DMARDs are failing, and I can use all the happiness I can get.

Love, Light and a Happy New Year to all.
